New Arrivals - Dress the Celebration
Summer Festive at سوما
When we sketched سسی (Sassi), we started with her name. It comes from the Sanskrit Śaśi (शशि), the moon, and it travelled into Sindhi and Punjabi over centuries. Her legend is older still, set in ancient Bhambore just outside Karachi, and immortalized in the 18th century by the Sufi poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai. We kept coming back to one image from his poetry: the desert at night, and a woman walking through it by moonlight to find her Punnun.
So we started with black velvet for the night sky, then let our karigars lay gold mukesh across it by hand, strand by strand, until it shimmered like moonlight on sand. We softened the shape so it feels as graceful as her story.
Every pair is made by hand in our Karachi atelier, just miles from where her story began. We hope you love wearing her as much as we loved making her. 🌙
Devoted. Handcrafted. Eternal.
