What Shoes to Wear for Mehndi, Nikkah, Baraat and Walima

A Pakistani or Indian wedding is rarely one event. Between dholki, mehndi, nikkah, baraat and walima, you may need four or five looks — and the right shoes for each. Here is our guide.

Dholki and mehndi

Mehndi is about colour, music and dancing, so choose something bright and comfortable. Multicolour khussas with gota or thread work are perfect, as are kolapuris with ghungroo that jingle as you move. Try CHAAND BALIYAN چاند بالیاں with silver ghungroo, or Marconi Kolapuri, worn by Ayeza Khan.

Nikkah

The nikkah is often softer and more intimate. Pearl khussas in ivory, blush or gold suit the mood beautifully — see RANIA رانیہ.

Baraat

This is the moment for your richest pair. Heavy mukesh, zardozi or kundan work in gold or silver to match a red or deep-toned lehenga. Explore NAZAKAT نزاکت and RAUNAK رونق Peep Toe.

Walima

Walima outfits are often pastel, silver or jewel-toned. A silver or pearl khussa, or an elegant mule like Sarwas, works well.

As a guest

Guests can have the most fun: colourful khussas, embellished sandals and a matching clutch. Choose comfort if you are dancing all night.

Eid and festive days

The same pairs carry straight into Eid, Diwali and festive dinners — one reason a good handmade khussa is worth it.
