How to Care for Your Handmade Khussa

A handmade khussa is made to be worn again and again — at weddings, on Eid, and on ordinary days too. A little care keeps the embroidery bright and the leather soft.

Breaking in a new pair

Handmade khussas fit snugly at first and relax with wear. Wear them at home for short periods over a few days before a big event. Thin socks help them stretch gently.

Keeping them clean

  • Brush off dust with a soft, dry brush after wearing.
  • Wipe leather with a slightly damp cloth, then let it dry naturally — never near a heater or in direct sun.
  • Do not soak or machine wash khussas, and keep water away from embroidery, mukesh and pearls.

Protecting embellishment

Mukesh, gota, kundan and pearls are set by hand. Avoid rubbing the toes together, and if a thread loosens, don't pull it — trim it carefully.

Storing your khussas

Store each pair in a soft cloth bag or tissue, away from damp. Stuff the toes lightly with tissue to keep the shape. For heavily embellished bridal pairs, keep them in their box between wears.

Wear them often

The best thing for a khussa is to be worn. Pair your bridal khussas with Eid outfits, festive dinners and even jeans.
